Ancient Egyptians had known the game of football which was recorded on the walls of the temples and discovered by "Herodt" when he visited Egypt.
Antiquities expert Dr. Abdel Rahim Rihan, Director General of Archaeological Research, Studies and Scientific Publishing in South Sinai at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, monitored what was stated in the book “Description of Egypt,” quoting the Greek historian Herodotus.
He pointed out that when he visited Egypt in 460 BC, he mentioned that he saw Egyptian children playing ball in a stadium of land divided into longitude and latitude.
He continued, "Balls made of straw, linen and leather were discovered in the tombs of the ancient Egyptians. They consisted of 12 layers stuffed with straw or cut cloth and hair. The Egyptian Museum keeps a number of these balls."
Dr. Rihan stressed that the ancient Egyptians were the first to organize the Olympic Games since 2000 BC. Drawings of Egyptian athletes were found practicing freestyle wrestling, fencing, archery, weightlifting, gymnastics, boxing, running, rowing, tug-of-war, hockey and fishing in the tombs of Bani Hassan in Minya and the tomb of Amenhotep, the governor of the region. Sixth in Upper Egypt 2000 BC.
He explained, "They were organizing sports festivals in ancient Egypt that had an international character, and the hieroglyphic texts accompanying these drawings illustrate the nature of the competition and the seriousness of all kinds of games offered in international celebrations in ancient Egypt."
Dr. Rayhan noted that the ancient Egyptian was interested in wrestling, which was depicted in large paintings in the modern state, and the rules and origins of wrestling were depicted, and military athletes participated in some of its matches, and it was required to win that the loser be forced to touch the ground with three points, such as the hands and the knee, and the matches were not without enthusiastic expressions between the wrestlers As one of them said, "Beware, I will squeeze your feet and throw you on your side."
He continues: "During the era of the Middle Kingdom, they excelled in the game of fencing using a wooden stick whose ends were protected by pieces of lead, and the contestants used to protect their waists, chins and forearms with leather shields, which confirms the seriousness of these matches."
The scenes of the modern state also confirmed that the ancient Egyptians enjoyed watching matches from the balconies of their palaces, and some enthusiastic princes would go down to the match arena to be close to the competitors.
